A Very Bavarian Holiday at the Hoveys: The Decor

After creating the Black Forest/cuckoo clock-inspired deer/pheasant/fox/pine cone vignette, a harsh reality set in: our apartment did not resemble anything Bavarian in any way shape or form. Suddenly the "comfortable gentleman's club with a bit more color" (presumably adaptable into a Bavarian theme) was a fluorescent jungle of non-German exotics and more Anglophilia than a gift shop outside Buckingham Palace. Major steps needed to be taken. These steps included: moving almost every piece of furniture into my bedroom, purchasing 10 roe deer antlers, switching out a mantle, switching out a mirror, hiding about 8 heads and a stuffed alligator in my bedroom (with all the furniture), hiding some marble behind the couch and taping an elaborate faux timber theme onto the walls. Here are the results!

I converted the chandelier into a wild floating pine tree of sorts and I carried that 9' tree (with Porter's help guiding the tip) on my shoulder/back and almost died (it was 20 years old! A geezer of a tree!). No half measures allowed at the holidays - even if you're left half bent in pain for weeks.

  2. Unknown says:

Love the pictures! But could they be bigger please? I know I'm missing so much detail!

  3. Unknown says:

Never mind... I just clicked on them and that did the trick. Love the tree with only white lights and gold baubles. and all the antlers, of course

Brilliant ladies! I was wondering how you did the walls...very good idea

  7. Est ist fantastisch! We, too, have a Bavarian theme to our Christmas decorations this (and most) years. Those wacky Germans really do (did) know how to celebrate the season! Reggie

  8. Gorgeous --as usual. But a 9-foot tree, carried home by you? Nine footers are great when they come with a gorgeous delivery guy. Hope that your back is better. Mary

  9. love.... wishing you a wonderful holiday... x

  10. Holy cow that is fabulous. Happy Holidays!

Have you guys seen "American Stuffers" on APL? Must see TV for those who love mounted beasts.

The place does not resemble anything Bavarian but the old pictures and the antique furniture make the whole house seem really vintage. The best is when you go to a house or flat like that and you get to take sepia photos. All of the apartments in Buenos Aires I rented while I was in Argentina has this vintage style and pictures of people from the aristchracy of the previous century. I loved to take sepia pics and then make up stories with those characters!
