The Slippery Slope

I really, truly had gotten past my slipper obsession.  The gluttony came to a head after Christmas with the Purple Label pair.  That brought the collection to: black with gold crest (Purple Label), black with white skull (Rugby), brown with stag head (Rugby), navy and burgundy stripe with silver wire skull (Rugby), black patent with bow (Cole Haan).  Way, way, way too many for any person.  But now I face the slippery slope of bespoke. Have a nice swatch of family tartan?  Send it off to Shipton + Heneage and pair will arrive at your door in 6-8 weeks.  Have a family crest or a blog logo?  They'll put that on there, too.  All this customization and monogramming business would have Jeeves running for the hills, but I love it.  Just this week I ordered a custom polo helmet (light brown and white with -- I hope -- my blog logo on the back, but if they can't do it, it'll have a good ole HHH embroidered.  Because everyone needs a polo helmet...and everyone needs it customized).

{1} Tweed, £99  {2} Leopard, £135  {3} Poppy (a tad too Louis XVI, I think, but nice for chart's sake), £199 {4} Tiger, £199  {5} Stag, £149  {6} Black Watch £89 (for £10 more you can send your own tartan).

Hm, I wonder which one I would buy.

I will be getting either a pair of navy or a pair in my family tartan very soon. I'm not sure if they are really me or what exactly I'd wear them with/to, but I love the look of them.

  6. I just wear 'em with jeans! The formality is quite fun paired with a good filthy, tattered pair of Levi's. It's even ok if the slippers get all tattered. True decadence (in both the fancy treats and Gatsby-esque societal sense of the word, I suppose).

  7. Monogrammed polo helmet? Excellent suggestion. I am concerned that our headboard would damage the polo helmet in some weird way that only I would notice.

Amazing - I went to the Shipton & Heneage website and saw some amazing options, but I think I will go custom. Great discovery!!!

  9. a sumptuous slippery slope, seemingly innocent...but few cozy pieces of footwear must be good for the heart!

and pairing them with jeans? true hhh brilliance, as usual.

  10. Oooooo . . . Just found your blog and LOVING it. lol.

Have you ever tried Crockett & Jones in London. They can do their 'Albert' slipper in any textile that you give them.

I have a great pair of olive velvet slippers with gold rampant lions.
