Porter and I never knew our Grandma Vi. She died of breast cancer shortly after our parents married. Craving home after the loss, mom convinced dad to leave New York and move back to her hometown, Lincoln, Nebraska. A couple years later, I was born and Porter, a few after that...both raised with stories of Vinona Mae (her antics with her sisters, her way around a farm fresh Thanksgiving dinner, her perfect hands...and one grand tale of escape to a roadside bar (with the children)). It broke our mom's heart that we never got to meet this firecracker.
So, ladies, Think Pink and get those mammograms. We all need time as something more than wonderful stories for our sons, daughters and grandkids.
