Watercolor Exhibit: Allan Say

© 1993 illustration by Allen Say, Grandfather's Journey

My mom gave me Allan Say's "Grandfather's Journey" a few years before she died. Not since Chris Van Allsburg had I been so transfixed by a children's book. Say's impeccable, touching watercolors stir the senses and give weight to his already heavy themes about WWII, heritage and legacy. An exhibit of Say's work hangs for two more days at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Mass.
